Alternative Hip Replacements - The Unconventional Other Choice!
The recent advancement of orthopedic science is in the area of hip replacements. Surgeons have successfully performed hip implant replacement with less than half of the incision size. These alternative hip replacements have a better therapeutic value than the conventional replacement surgeries. The minimally invasive hip replacement implants involve accessing the hip joint through a smaller incision of two to three inches. This alternative procedure is muscle-sparing and retains the joint support during the surgery.
There are many benefits associated with an alternative hip replacement implant. The smaller incision minimizes the chances of postoperative infections in implants. The soft tissues, including muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons are not severed to approach the joint. This maintains the support of the implant. All these factors shorten the recovery time as the muscles take less time to heal. Implants are reinforced by a retained support system, thereby resumption of activities is early. Most of the patients undergoing minimally invasive surgery start walking the next day of the surgery. After surgery the patient is hospitalized only for one day. There is less blood loss, so it doesn’t require transfusion. Patients find the minimally invasive surgery less painful and rehabilitation less troublesome.
The minimally invasive alternative to hip replacement and implant surgeries is a sophisticated procedure. The professionals are specially trained to perform the surgery and need to be experts in handling specialized instruments. There is limited number of orthopedic surgeons who could do the minimally invasive surgery, however many surgeons have started modifying the conventional approach by inflicting a smaller cut.
