Minimal Incision Replacement – Quicker, Better And Safer
Hip replacement comes to the rescue in situations where mobility is decreased. Minimal incision replacements of hips is a newer concept that is receiving increased attention from many hip replacement surgeons. Studies have demonstrated that minimal incision hip replacements and implants are quicker, better and safer.
Minimal incision replacements of the hip joint take just 35 to 45 minutes to finish. Likewise, this new hip replacement implant technique also results in a shorter hospital stay and early rehabilitation for the patient.
Minimal incisions replacements surgeries are done using a four to six-inch incision, depending on the size of the patient. There is minimal blood loss and post-operative pain from the incision. For most patients, hip replacement surgery with implants provides prompt pain relief, with the surgical pain lasting no more than 48 hours.
As minimal incision procedures take less time to finish, incisions are open for a shorter period. This decreases the risk of surgical incisions infection. Minimal incision techniques are safer than the mini-hip implant technique currently advertised.
During hip replacement surgery, the bone surgeon makes an incision along the joint, moves aside muscles and removes damaged bone and cartilage. The remaining bone is prepared to receive the artificial hip implant, which is then cemented into position. Hip implants may be fixed without the use of cement as well. The incision is then closed, and the replacement impant inside.
Since the smaller the incision the more skillfully demanding the surgery, minimal incision techniques have not been welcomed with open arms by all surgeons. However, despite these limitations, due to its many benefits, minimal-incision hip replacement implants is all set to become the hip replacement surgery of tomorrow.
