Small Incision Replacements – Less Pain, Faster Recovery
For the patients of arthritis, hip replacement impants are the treatment of choice. Until now, the traditional method of total hip replacement was used that involved a long incision for the implant and its associated complications. New technologies have now made small incision replacements of hip possible.
Minimally invasive surgery has become increasingly popular in many surgical arenas over the past several years. Now, many surgeons are using small incision techniques to perform small incision hip replacement implants. A small incision replacement of the hip joint require surgeons trained in the small incision technique using specially designed instruments to remove the damaged bone through the small incision.
Healing of cut muscles and tendons can make recovery from traditional hip replacement surgery long and painful. Since those tissues generally are not cut in the small incisions implant technique, potential patient benefits include less recovery time and more mobility.
Any new surgical technique comes with its own risks, but total hip replacements using small incisions appears to offer great benefits to the patient. The implants offer freedom and mobility.
