Pinnacle Hip Replacements - Strong Cup, Strong Joint!

The hip is a ball and socket type of joint. The two parts of the joint, the acetabular cup and the femoral head, coordinate with each other to make a range of motion possible at the hip joint. The acetabular cup accommodates the femoral head, allowing for smooth movement and rotation that aids in mobility of the joint. Any irregularities on acetabular surfaces increase the wear and tear, making movements difficult. In conventional hip replacements and implants, the polyethylene cups have high degree of friction. In due course it wears out, causing loosening and painful hip implants. The very purpose of the surgery is then defeated. Pinnacle hip replacements aim to supersede this drawback of implant surgeries.

The Pinnacle hip replacement offers a cementless acetabular cup. This implant has an outer titanium shell with a special Porocoat® porous coating surface that enhances the process of biological fixation and makes the hip joint more stable. Pinnacle acetabular cups have a liner made of either Marathon® Cross-Linked Polyethylene or the Ultamet™ Metal-On-Metal Bearing that eases frictionless movement of the femoral head in the Pinnacle cup. Implants with the Pinnacle acetabular cup have been shown to withstand wear and tear more effectively. This property makes the implant durable and delays loosening of hip replacement implants. Subsequently, the need of revision surgery is also postponed.

However, your orthopedic surgeon needs to decide the suitability of the implant according to your disease profile. The surgery procedure for implants is much the same as any other hip replacement surgery. The patient needs to take all post operative care as advised and follow instructions regarding rehabilitation.
